I absolutely love this thing, the places it’s aloud me go is incredible.
I’ve used the Hypershell ProX now for a solid 2 months (Purchased May 25). Positive reviews here, on you-tube and in our national press convinced me to give them a try. I had no meaningful local way of trying the ProX out beforehand so had to rely on what others described and demonstrated before taking a risk and a financial plunge. I did e-mail the company directly but received no reply. The point about these not being a medical device is laboured greatly yet many people with a variety of conditions seem to be getting a lot of positive help from it. I am certainly not an athletic fell runner nor mountain biker, I have MS – as many others who find this exoskeleton seem to do too.
As is the way with this disease I lost a large % of my own battery power significantly and so far permanently in February. My daily stellar limit of 1000 yards 2x daily (with rest betwixt) was more than halved overnight leaving our dog without his already super slow (but steady) companion. I needed something to help lift my legs and conserve what personal electrical energy I have remaining to let me regain those lost 1000 yards. And you know what? They do exactly that!
They take a bit of getting used to. I only need the Eco 1 or 2 setting depending on footwear weight and I have the app set only to Walking. The terrain here is uneven, changing over 20 minutes from rocky track to uneven grass and soft forest floor. The device seems well built and feels rugged with its metal frame. The “belt” weight is not insignificant. For the medically afflicted like me it does impact on balance/gait, its power easily offsets its load but it does alter something in terms of gait/balance that in 8 weeks or so I have not figured out. The dog gets her walk though! Battery power is fine, I get about 3 or 4 days (say 4k) out of one before it needs charge – one of them seems to discharge faster. I worry about the long-term resilience of the plastic waist buckle which has popped apart twice now under use – the belt needs to have a good grip round your middle to keep things at the right height/position so it needs to be tight – I do wonder if the buckle should be metal. The leg straps are fine. I have an electronic sort of squeak in one motor sometimes. I thought the noise might be heralding a new biological deficit for me but no, my knees are not squeaky. I am also looking forward to winter as the 2 little hip motors warm up nicely (no flames!) and will be excellent hand warmers in those colder months!!
So if you can still walk (you need to be able to do at least that!). Need your legs raised by the factor of one horse power (I read that somewhere) to help you save that precious daily energy – these do work. Sincere thanks and kudos to the Hypershell team, a wonderful (non medical) device. I do wonder where things go from here.
I was diagnosed with MS 21 years ago and have been walking with a stick for many years. The X Pro Exoshell makes me stand up straight and can walk un aided. I haven't stood up straight for at least 10 years as I also have Scoliosis. I was scared to walk without the stick at first but now I can go for short walks at work outside and I also use the exoskeleton to go shopping in to stop the debilitating fatigue. It is an amazing invention and I would recommend. I have the setting on eco (green) with two dots showing. This way I am also doing work to improve my muscles.
